Green house Gaslighting

The term Gaslighting means to manipulate someone into questioning their own perception of reality. The expression originated from the 1944 film Gaslight, where a young woman’s husband slowly convinces her that she is going insane.

What are his tactics?

Well, when a trusted person tells you things about yourself, you tend to believe them.

We sometimes even believe hearing things about ourselves from strangers.

And when a person tells us things, we also tend to believe them. Gaslighting takes advantage of this trust. Gaslighters will twist the truth to cover up something they did that they don’t want to face, in order to manipulate others.

For more on gaslighting, look at the Wikipedia page, go down a psychological Robbie hole. Also I want to watch this movie, I never saw it. It’s funny that a movie title can become a key phrase in psychology today.
